The Radio Law requires type approval (ie technical compliance certification) for designated radio equipment. Certification is compulsory, and the certification body is a registered certification body recognized by MIC in the designated radio equipment range. TELEC (Telecom Engineering Center) is the main registered certification body for Japan's radio equipment compliance certification.

(1) TELEC certification standards

For certified technical standards, refer to the classification and technical standards of the specified radio equipment listed on its official website's technical regulatory compliance certification system. It is worth noting that when these technical standards differ from the technical requirements of the Radio Regulatory Commission Rules No. 18, the Radio Regulations shall prevail.

(2) Type of certification

TELEC certification includes Test Certification and Type Certification. The test certification is to verify each equipment unit. The certification is valid only for each validated equipment unit. The type certification refers to the verification of a sample of a batch of equipment that is also designed and manufactured. Valid, but if the design or manufacturing of the device changes, the device will need to be recertified. It is worth noting that the use of non-low-power radio stations and their terminal equipment requires a license from the MIC. In addition, there are two cases for the compliance certification of telecommunication terminal equipment: For ordinary telephone devices, JATE certification is required as required by the Telecommunications Business Law; for wireless terminal equipment, in addition to JATE certification required by the Telecommunications Business Law, TELEC certification as required by radio law.
