North American ETL certification
ETL is the exclusive mark of Intertek, the world's leading quality and safety services company, dating back to 1896. After the American inventor Edison founded the Lamp Testing Bureau, he renamed it "Electrical Testing Laboratories" in 1904, becoming today's ETL, and has a high reputation in the United States and around the world. For more than a century since its establishment, ETL has developed into a diversified laboratory and has been listed as a National Recognized National Laboratory by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Testing Laboratory-NRTL). At the same time, the Standards Council of Canada-SCC also recognizes ETL as an Accredited Certification Body and an Accredited Testing Organization, and recognizes it as an independent Canadian product safety certification organization (You can log in to OSHA's website http://www.osha.gov for more information). SEMKO was founded in Sweden in 1925. It was originally a compulsory safety certification unit approved by the Swedish government and can be said to be the Swedish Inspection Agency. SEMKO is one of the world's earliest organizations engaged in safety testing, and has been listed as a nationally recognized laboratory by the Swedish Board for Accreditation and Conformity Assessment-SWEDAC. It is a designated agency under a number of EU directives ( Notified Body) is also the testing organization with the largest number of test and certification reports in the International Electrotechnical Commission-IEC CB plan. SEMKO was acquired by the Intertek Group in 1994.
The US federal authorities do not have any compulsory certification requirements for electrical products, and recognize most certification agencies including ETL, UL, and so on. In fact, any NRTL approved by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) can provide independent assessment, testing, and certification services for electrical and gas (fuel) products in accordance with current safety standards.
Like UL and CSA, ETL can test and issue the ETL certification mark according to UL standards or US national standards, and can also test and issue the compound certification mark according to UL standards or US national standards and CSA standards or Canadian standards. The "us" at the bottom right of the ETL mark is applicable to the United States, the "c" at the bottom left is applicable to Canada, and both "us" and "c" are applicable in both countries.
Any electrical, mechanical or electromechanical product bearing the ETL mark indicates that the product has met the minimum requirements of generally recognized US and Canadian product safety standards. It has been tested by Intertek, a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL), and complies with Relevant national standards; it also represents the production plant's agreement to receive strict regular inspections to ensure consistent product quality and can be sold to the US and Canadian markets. For distributors, retailers, and consumers, they are purchasing products that have been tested and certified by third parties.
As a domestic professional third-party testing laboratory, Testing Lab has a good cooperative relationship with Intertek, which can help major factories and traders to apply for ETL certification.
